Ulum al Qur'an as turats is not just a collection of ancient manuscrips written in a time that there was no printing. It is also not an independent form which is defensible as it contains theoretical truths. It is an expression of the reality in which it itself is a part of that reality. For this reason, inhereting turath must be interpreted as not just accepting it without any critical stance. At least two steps can be done as a critical stance: first, adding new contents for discussion of the charge of ulum al Qur'an. New offers of hermenutical method can enter here. Second, developing and filling the cargo of the discussion of ulum al Qur'an with new insights that could respond to contemporary problems. What is needed is giving new meaning of the old concepts, not new contents coming from outside". This paper offers a re-interpretation of the two old concepts of "ulum al Qur'an
