The topic of discussion in this article is gender in sociocultural perspective. Unlike the previous studies, this article puts an emphasis on socio cultural construct that results inthe bias of the understandings of the majority of people in the society about gender. Problems of violence experinced by woman can be observed from the phenomena, such as:1, Streotyping that women are secondary class, complementary, weak and gracious, emotional, and motherly, and that men are super, rational, strong. 2, The existing phenomena marginalizing woman. 3, The existing assumption thet women are subordinated. 4, That existing violence toword women both physically and mentally. 5, The existing fact that most women are having double roles. The phenomena invite the reactions from feminist groups that fight for gender equality and justice.het.
